Beyond the THC Presents Reading Series: Authors Visit from Across the Atlantic

DSCN9405

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Tamale Hut Cafe hosted impromptu gatherings and readings featuring Christoph Simon and Donal McLaughlin, two European authors (and friends of dedicated open mic contributor Christopher Krazmus). Simon, a native of Switzerland whose fourth novel, Zbinden’s Progress, has been translated into English, shared several works in progress along with his poem “Dear Satan.” McLaughlin, an acclaimed short story writer and translator currently residing in Scotland, read from his story “A Trip to Carfin,” which was published in the Summer 2012 issue of The Hudson Review. Their visit and readings on November 23 and 24 constituted the eleventh stop on their North American tour–right here, at the Tamale Hut Cafe in North Riverside!
