The featured reader may look familiar, but this month’s installment of the Tamale Hut Cafe Reading Series offers something a little bit different.
Regular attendees of our events will recognize Matthew Bieniek. In addition to being the coordinator of the Tamale Hut Cafe Writers Group, Matt is also a fixture of the reading series open mic, through which he’s been entertaining audience members with science fiction-tinged stories and novel excerpts for the past two and a half years. Though we know him best as the writer who conquered NaNoWriMo three years in a row (with two of those completed novels, Casco Cove and The Hidden Message, on sale now at Amazon.com), Matt’s prolific output extends far beyond that challenge. His novel The Opening of the Elysium is almost ready for release, and if that’s not enough, the November 16th reading will have Matt and a cast of friends presenting his latest published work, The Sleep Detectives, in a way that, for our series, is a new and interesting twist.
For months, Matt’s been sharing chapters from the story of a man who finds himself a witness to the events of years past while he sleeps. This month, to celebrate the publication of The Sleep Detectives, Matt and his cast will be presenting a chapter from the book in the style of an old-fashioned radio play. Come hear a crew of friends transform themselves into Tony the sleep detective and his trusted gang!
Copies of The Sleep Detectives will be for sale that night. The reading begins at 7 p.m., with an open mic to follow Matt’s presentation. As always, the event is free, with food and drink available for purchase. And of course, the event is at Tamale Hut Cafe, 8300 W. Cermak Road in North Riverside.
See you on November 16th!
